Spy Cameras Hidden in Motion Detectors
If you want to do long-term video observation of your home, you’ll want a system that can be a part of the fixtures and fittings of your home. Since alarm systems are very commonly part of a household, then having a spy camera system that’s uses motion detectors and other alarm-type fixtures makes perfect sense.
If you have an alarm system already, virtually nobody is going to question the fact you have an extra sensor or two fitted to the corner of the room (which conceals your spy camera). You can then hardwire the system to a video recorder in the loft, garage or a bedroom cupboard. Since motion detectors are an integral part of alarm systems, a PIR spy camera can be hidden in plain sight, with an excellent field of vision pretty much covering a whole room.
If you already have motion sensors in a room, then you’ll need to put the spy camera PIR unit in a corner different from your main PIR. If anyone asks why you have more than one PIR unit, you can just say that you’re covering blind spots, or using a second unit due to the bright light from a window. If your reasoning sounds plausible, it’ll quickly become an afterthought.
Some spy cameras that are hidden in motion detectors also feature motion detection features themselves. This means that you save storage space when video footage is captured. These movement detecting cameras typically record video footage to an internal memory card (usually an SD card), which means you don’t necessarily need to have any substantial CCTV-type recording equipment.
Although may PIR spy cameras can operate from a rechargeable or alkaline batteries, for long term surveillance, you’d want a hard-wired power supply anyway. Since PIRs are usually mounted towards the ceiling, this means you can easily add wiring from above and hide the wiring in coving or under floorboards. Any mains power pack you get with your PIR is likely to have just 2 metres of wire, so you’ll probably need an extension wire so that you can hide the power cable appropriately.
